Snow Day - Tuesday October 17, 2006

The Heroes

On Tuesday October 17, 2006 an unexpected snow storm hit the Pikes Peak region. A last minute decision was made to cancel the run and an e-mail was distributed to the entire club to announce the unfortunate news. But apparently some members didnt get the memo. The next morning the following testimonial was received from one very dedicated member of Jack Quinns Running Club, Jeff Owsley

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

One Dani and 22 others have true love for their club. Each cold and dripping face that entered Jack Quinn's had an 'Ahh! At last!' look as they pressed hard against the door to keep the snow gusts from penetrating the warm sanctuary of their beloved pub. A joyous cheer went up as those already safe rushed to support the fellow die hard with a shoulder to lean on...and a pint.

I know the run was cancelled, but anyone who was there and experienced the drama would agree that these heroes deserve to be counted. Here they are:

Anthony Sharer
Ashley Cohen (who couldn't miss her shirting night)
Joe Squizzero
Rhonda Squizzero
Mary Smith (who is surprisingly in her 60s, said "I love this club")
Berverly Carver
Arlene Kufchock
Eric Hansen
David Patrick
Dani Hill (who is not a boy)
Eric Hill
Tina Troyer
Rick Fredericks
(Smiling) Zack Bender
Matt Bates (who had the one camera phone among us to get a single photo documenting the night, we cleared as much snow as possible off of each other so we could smile - and other visible places so as not to make others feel badly for us)
Chris Alexi
Trina Troyer
Tim Steffens
Susan Mopper (who did NOT have a camera phone, but kept in constant touch with the outside world on her phone)
Brian Gottwalt
John Teisher
and Jeff Owsley (who never exaggerates)

I can understand why the run was cancelled. After all, we wouldnt want this to happen again:

Well, late that night the storm was gone, and they found 'im, there at dawn
Well, he'd a-made it, but he just couldn't leave 'ol Dan
Yes, they found him there, on the plains, with his hands froze to the reins
He was just a-hundred yards from MaryAnn

Though not an official run, the evening testified to the icy determination, the solid commitment and deep, deep love our members have for their Jack Quinn's Running Club!
